I met up with my favorite sister this past weekend in San Francisco in part to celebrate our early birthday. We met up with Vince & Secret Baby Chan, Nicci & Glen, and Aunt Ruth & Marisa flew down too. It was fantastic to see everyone and spend some time in a totally beautiful and intersting city.

Felix Bobblehead Night

We had a fantastic time at the M's vs. Padres interleague game on Friday (a.k.a. Felix Bobblehead Night). Even though the M's dropped the game and the roof was closed, still a great night for hanging out with friend and family and big pink hands.

In support of my alma mater (and love of live sporting events) we went to see Oregon State play the University of Washington at Safeco Field. Although OSU did not run away with a victory, it was fantastic to see such a great showing of orange and black in Huskie territory. GO BEAVERS!!!!!!

I love the excitement of baseball season...the crack of the bat, base stealing, homeruns...it is the sign of spring here in the SODO district of Seattle.

And I especially love Mariners promotion nights and April brought the first of four bobbleheads nights...ICHIRO BOBBLEHEAD night. Yes, that's correct, I am 1/4 of my way to owning the 2007 super bobblehead of four fine looking and interlocking bobbleheads :)

We have been wanting to paint our house since before we even moved in but, being slow as we are, we just now got it done. We hired the work out, thank goodness, and I think it is a vast improvement from the previous condition. Here is the new paint scheme...green/grey with white trim.

For Father's Day this year, we went to a fantastic climbing area off Exit 38 near North Bend. Evidently this is a very popular place with tons of mapped out routes. It was great to get back on the rock after such a prolonged absense (has it really been 10 years???).

The Charles River in Boston always seemed to be full of rowers no matter what time of day. The City of Boston has also built these great parks along the riverfront for the outdoor enthusiasts and for us tourists to get a fabulous view of the city. In the background is the famous Citgo sign that is seen during every Boston Red Sox broadcast from Fenway Park.

Tim and Kelly flew all the way from Hawaii to run in the Boston Maraton. We met up with them after the race and was great to catch up with them and be reminded of the old office days. They also had fantastic races considering the flu they shared and the relatively cold temperatures that day.

Jan and I went to high school with a super smart guy named Ben. He is currently attending MIT and is going to graduate with a Ph.D. degree in physical science (?) any day now. Thank goodness Jan has kept in touch with him all this time. He gave us a fantastic tour of the MIT campus including the quad in front of this beautiful building. All our thanks to Ben for taking us to some awesome restaurants and giving us failproof directions to get around town!!

I sure wish I could remember this pitchers name...we both got his signature on our entrance tickets and he seemed like such a nice guy, willing to take time out for a photo. No matter, I will figure it out :) We had such a good time touring the Safeco Field facilities and getting signatures...we are definately going to do this again next year.

Mariners Fan Fest 2006

Matt, Tory, Jacob, and I went to the Mariners Fan Fest yesterday...what a great time!!! We stopped for a picture as we ran around the bases. The next stop was taking a few swings in the batting cages and then touring the M's clubhouse.

State Wrestling Tournament

Held down at the Battle Ground High School, the State Folkstyle Wrestling Tournament was the biggest one we have attended yet. The picture shows four full mats, two additional ones were located closer to the stands. They had the mats broken up into two for a total of 12 matches happening simultaneously. Jacob wrestled tough, winning his second match of the day and losing two others. It was great experience for him to be wrestling with such high caliber athletes and only in his first year.

My extended family (14 of us in total) joined us at our house for the Christmas Holiday this year. Definately one of the highlights was going Quest Stadium on Christmas eve to watch the Seahawks defeat the Colts...what a game!!! Jacob has started his first year wrestling with the local USA wrestling club. This past Saturday the meet was in Anacortes, WA - the gateway to the San Juans. For us it meant an early morning and late night but lots of fun in the middle. He wrestled tough for both his matches and in the end lost by decision. I have a feeling he will be winning before he knows it...should be a fun year!!

Went halloween costume shopping this weekend for my step-son...he decided on this grim reaper type costume and is totally excited to go trick-or-treating tonight. He and Tory made the scythe...thank goodness it is made of wood!! The mask is totally crazy...it recirculates blood using a tube and pump system to make it look like his face is bleeding, crazy crazy.

NPR Pledge Drive

My company volunteered to answer phones this year for the local NPR pledge drive. Seven of us showed up at the Seattle station at 5:45 a.m. to report for duty... and waiting for us was fresh coffee (thank goodness) and tons of food. The phone answering part was fairly easy, they provided a script and directions. We ended up making the goal in the last minutes of our three hour shift...very satisfying!!! However, it is a good thing that we will not be doing this again until next year...being in Seattle at quarter of six in the morning had me getting up around 2:30 a.m., waaaaaaaaay too early.

Horse in the Pasture

So, I went to go set up some noise monitors for a housing project yesterday. I was told the site was open and currently an old horse pasture. What I did not realize is that the horse was STILL IN the pasture (look closely at the barn door...the white part is on his face). The neighbors told me he was extremely friendly and all the kids in the area come by to feed him. He hid out in the barn for a while and then decided to venture out to say hello. Indeed he was very friendly, just not what I was expecting.

Demolition Derby

We have seen signs around town for demolition derby's throughout the summer and we finally decided to go to one. And it was so much fun!!! (unfortunately I forgot my camera at home, lol). It was pretty amusing to see people racing around in these junky old cars that did not appear that they should even be running at all (flat tires, broken axles, etc.) One event included trying to intentionally roll a car and the drivers were awarded points for the number of sides that touched the ground before stopping. Incredible!

My company held a planning meeting today...first one in the history of the company so no one really knew what to expect. The meeting lasted all day but was actually productive...kind of got us excited about the direction the company is heading and all that. We all met at Salty's in West Seattle, beautiful restaurant, excellent food, and incredible service. It was so neat viewing downtown Seattle from a different perspective.

Beautiful day for sailing in the sound. Lately I have been wondering why so many sailboats are so close to the ferry lanes though. I mean, the ferry boats are farily large and leave a huge wake. Seems like they would be pretty disruptive to a smaller vessel under wind-power that is not able to move quickly to get out of the way.

Matt, Ben, and I were sitting in the stands, enjoying the game when the Royals started loading up the bases with Mariners. With bases loaded, Matt and I decided it would be very cool to see a grand slam as neither of us had seen one live and in person before. And wouldn't you know it...second pitch to Adrian Beltre was thrown and he belted it over the left field fence. What a game!!

Went to the Allison Krauss and Union Station concert last night at Marymore Park in Redmond. They are great performers and put on a wonderful show. Periodically throughout the show, Allison would start telling stories about the band members...so funny. And for such a soft spoken woman, she sure can belt it out...just incredible. We had also not ever been to Marymore Park before...something like 700 acres just spitting distance from Seattle. The park has a handful of baseball diamonds, ducks and geese, and the band said they even saw a rabbit...how cool is that?!?

After spending Saturday morning navigating the rough waters in Neah Bay, and then not having any luck during the Saturday evening fishing in Sekiu, it was great to finally get some pink salmon in the boat on Sunday. Matt and I landed 5 pinks...plenty enough for some great dinners and to smoke.

Had some rough seas while trying to fish Neah Bay this time. Just about all of us were not feeling well at one point or another...and some much much more than others (poor Ed). And no fish to show for it all either! However, with most of the boats moored to the docks, was able to capture photos of lots of boats...I really plan on doing something with them at some point, like frame some and hang them up in the house (probably should do that soon before I lose my motivation, lol).

Marisa, Ruth, and I made it to Seattle to see the Mariners -vs- Indians. Great to see the M's win a game, however unconventional. All three M's runs were scored with longballs with two from Ichiro. Incredible. My boss gave us these great seats, just a few rows off the field, not bad for Marisa's first MLB game.

Out in the area were we go crabbing and shrimping in Dabob Bay, there is a little beach with a picnic table, some chairs, and a tire swing that various people have left behind over the years. We took advantage of another beautiful sunny day to play on the beach, pull some crab pots, and go tubing. Ah, summertime.

Aunt's Birthday Dinner

We really had quite an eventful Fourth of July weekend. Sunday was my aunt's birthday..had quite a spread for dinner (notice the crab legs in the bowl...from Friday's crabbing adventure). After dinner we went on a Blue's Cruise as part of the Portland Blues Festival. For two hours a river boat took us up and down the Willamette River along the Portland waterfront while bands on all three decks played blues music...soooo very cool. It was a late night, got back to the house after 2am, but definately worth it.

My aunt and uncle took us to the Rogue Brewery for lunch...unfortunately a lot of other people had the same idea and there was a very long line...

Beer Sale

But not all was lost...the brewery had a beer clearance sale going on in the warehouse. I must say, the brewmasters at Rogue are very inventive when it come to new flavors of beer. One variety combined chamomile tea with lager...very interesting. We ended up with Honey Cream Ale...sooooooo yummy. Oh, and the boxes contained 12-20 ounce bottles...what a deal!!!

Beautiful Day on the Oregon Coast

We drove down to Newport, OR late on Saturday and woke up to a beautiful day on the coast!! The wind did not pick up until later in the afternoon so walking an the beach was wonderful...no sand in the ears or anything.

Crabs!!!

Crabs Crabs Crabs!! Matt took us crabbing out of Seabeck this afternoon. He had been out earlier in the morning (season opened at 7am) so we were more or less out for the ride and watch them pick up the crab pots dropped earlier in the day. The afternoon take was 14 dungeness and 2 rock crabs...not bad at all :)
